Fear. It’s a word that often makes us feel uneasy. For many, it brings to mind feelings of darkness, anxiety, and being stuck. We’ve been taught to see fear as something to avoid, a roadblock to our happiness and success.

But what if fear isn’t the enemy? What if “Fear is where intelligence grows.”
And “If you don’t develop intelligence out of the fear, then you’re always stuck with the fear.” Ra Uru Hu That is where we have developed the belief that fear is the enemy.

This idea encourages us to see fear not as a dead end but as a starting point—a rich ground for growing wisdom and insight.

Seeing Fear as a Spark for Growth

To really appreciate the role of fear in our lives, we need to understand where it comes from. Fear is closely tied to our survival instincts. It’s what helped our ancestors navigate a world full of dangers. Fears of the unknown, of failure, or of not being good enough were crucial in helping them avoid harm and make better decisions.

Today, these fears are often less about survival and more about things like rejection, not measuring up, or worrying about the future. Even though these fears aren’t about life and death anymore, they still serve a key purpose—they push us to grow.

When we feel fear, we have a choice: we can let it stop us, or we can face it and learn from it. This is where our intelligence comes in. By examining our fears, understanding where they come from, and finding ways to deal with them, we can turn fear from something that paralyzes us into something that drives our personal growth.

If we don’t learn from our fears, we stay stuck in them. Imagine being caught in a loop of anxiety, always worrying about the same things without ever moving past them. This is what happens when we don’t face our fears, when we choose to push them away or run from them instead of dealing with them directly.

Staying stuck in fear keeps us from growing and reaching our full potential. Our intelligence—our ability to make good decisions, think critically, and grow emotionally—can’t thrive if our minds are trapped in fear.

So how do we turn fear into something that helps us grow? The first step is awareness. When fear comes up, instead of pushing it away, take a moment to look at it.

Ask yourself: What is this fear trying to teach me? What can I learn from it?

For example, the fear of failure often points to a desire to be good at something. By recognizing this, we can shift our focus from avoiding failure to finding opportunities to learn and improve. Similarly, the fear of the unknown can motivate us to gather more information, prepare better, and approach new experiences with curiosity instead of dread.

This process of turning fear into wisdom isn’t about getting rid of fear altogether. Fear is a natural and necessary part of life. It’s about finding a way to incorporate fear into our lives that helps us grow rather than holding us back. It’s about using fear as a tool for self-discovery and growth.

Welcoming the Wisdom of Fear

Living a life of wisdom and growth depends on how we relate to our fears. When we understand that fear is a natural response that can guide us toward greater awareness and intelligence, we stop seeing it as something to be afraid of. Instead, we can welcome it as a necessary companion on our journey.

It’s up to us to nurture that growth, to turn our fears into stepping stones rather than stumbling blocks. By doing so, we unlock a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us, paving the way for a life of greater clarity, purpose, and fulfillment.
